About the course
The meaningful questions of life have always exercised the mind. Is there a god? What is knowledge? Why should I be good? AS and A level Philosophy gives students a thorough understanding of some of the key philosophical issues, themes, texts and techniques. The course covers western Philosophy, offering students opportunities to develop an ability to analyse and assess philosophical writings and to present coherent arguments.
The study of philosophy trains the students to question appearances and encourages a high level of analysis. Philosophy is therefore an excellent subject for any student intending to study at higher level.
Overall, applications to university philosophy degrees have risen by 20% since 2000. A Level Philosophy is an excellent and increasingly popular addition to your sixth form.
