Course Requirements
Students should have achieved a C grade or above at French and English GCSEs.
About the course
Studying French at A level will help students to develop the ability to use the language effectively for practical communication and to form a sound basis of the skills and language required for further study, work and leisure purposes. It will also provide an insight into the culture, civilisation and social life of France and promote greater knowledge and enjoyment of French speaking countries, encouraging an interest in contemporary issues and extending an awareness of language and its uses.
The A level qualification is the usual pre-requisite for the further study of a language in Higher Education, but is also an extremely useful addition to anyone’s CV given that competition in Europe is becoming increasingly important. An A level in French gives a good foundation for the study of modern foreign languages at degree level and can often be used in conjunction with an additional subject, for example, Business Studies.
