About the course
Critical Thinking does not involve learning facts but is about learning how to think, reason and write in a coherent and logical way. As such, AS Critical Thinking aims to develop skills which are fully transferable to other AS and A level subjects, to higher education and to everyday life. The course teaches students to distinguish facts from opinions, how to weigh up the strength of somebody else's case and to recognise other people's assumptions.
Students will study the language of reasoning and will learn to recognise and evaluate different kinds of reasoning. They learn to evaluate arguments rationally and to reason intelligently. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to present their own arguments and respond appropriately to objections and opposing views.
