Our History

Our pioneering distance learning enterprise began as a county council project in 1982. Three schools in North East Wales – Hawarden High, Elfed High and Mold Alun – were the first to be involved in a scheme which would enable them to offer subjects that had previously been unavilable to them, either because of staff shortage or constraints.

Five years after the pilot scheme was launched the number of schools involved had increased significantly and the county council handed the responsibility of running and expanding the scheme to Direct Education, which became a private limited company in March 1992. Steady expansion of the company’s client base has produced an excellent reputation in a number of subjects. Thousands of students in schools and colleges throughout England, Wales, and Internationally, have benefited from the company’s flexible and cost-effective service.

Our People

Direct Education is staffed and run by a team of dedicated and experienced teachers who believe in the value of our innovative approach. As a company, we are fortunate in that we are able to attract the best subject specialists. Not only this but we ensure that all our teaching staff are fully trained in the use of video conferencing equipment and the tutouring techniques that will get the best from our distance learning students. This benefits our client schools and students because you can be sure that when you offer a course through Direct Education you are getting a fully trained, committed and professional teacher.

Our philosophy is centered very firmly in education. We are committed to providing you and your students with a cost effective, flexible and rewarding educational experience. For us, our students come first and we understand that the needs of different schools and students are not all the same. For this reason we work with schools on a flexible basis and will aim to develop a distance learning package that suits you, your students and your budget.

Our Clients

We provide A Level courses to schools across the UK and beyond. We work with a range of state and independant schools both small and large and in rural and urban locations. We have students of all abilities – all that we ask is that they want to learn.

Our Future

Direct Education is growing fast. In addition to our excellent reputation, we are also benefiting from our cost efectiveness and as such we believe that we are the fastest growing provider of tutored distance learning A Levels in the UK.

And we are still pioneering projects. We pioneered the teaching of A Level and GCSE Law through the medium of the Welsh Language and have translated the entire course (including a workbook) into Welsh. A bi-lingual multimedia CD ROM is being developed and we have just announced the very first text book written in Welsh which we support all students of law up to and including first year degree level.
